February 5, 2010 – “Let us not muddle the meaning of good governance — governments are still and must still be all about the principle of good governance!”

This was the strong statement of Bangon Pilipinas presidential candidate, Eddie Villanueva, in reaction to the recent statement of the National Statistical Coordination Board (NSCB) saying that voters do not vote for good governance.

“It is sad that a statement like that which is based on questionable facts makes the headlines. It sends a very dangerous and wrong signal to our youth, which make up the largest percentage of voters in the coming May elections,” Villanueva lamented.

“I value this second life so much that I am willing to work only with a person who has a proven track record to serve his fellow man– and he is Bro. Eddie Villanueva,” said Atty. Ramoncito Ocampo upon arrival from the United States (US) Monday night.

Ocampo, a senatorial candidate of Bangon Pilipinas Party, is an El Shaddai stalwart in the US and is one of the most trusted lay preachers of El Shaddai leader Mike Velarde. He underwent a quadruple bypass operation in 2007 and has since devoted his life not only in practicing law but also in rendering service to the Church and to US-based Filipinos. He provides legal counsel specializing on family and immigration laws in the US since the 80s.

“Realizing that life is short, I sought ways to help my fellow Filipinos and not long after, I founded Bangon Pilipinas – US Chapter. But I know I could do more. That is why in 2009, when Bro. Eddie Villanueva said that he would run as President again, I said I would join him. His track record not only as a Christian leader but also as a good governance advocate convinced me that Bro. Eddie as President would make possible ‘anim na taong walang korapsyon, ang Pilipinas ay babangon!’ (Six years of no corruption will make the country rise to its feet!)”

“The Bishops said it perfectly,” said Bro. Eddie Villanueva who praised the Pastoral Statement issued by the Catholic Bishops Conference (CBCP) of the Philippines exhorting voters to choose candidates based on conscience “after a prayerful and collective discernment.”

“The nation is badly hurting, especially in the economic, political, and moral spheres. The May election is a make or break situation for the country. The leaders Filipinos would elect could either begin national recovery or continue the journey towards national perdition,” Bro. Eddie said.

In the CBCP Pastoral Statement, the Bishops called the voters to “not be swayed by survey results or political advertisements… Winnability is not at all a criterion for voting!”
